Lake Powell 2006: The New Creation Testimonies
I recently attended the New Creation Ministries conference located in Page, Arizona--a beautiful place which really shows the creation of God. Though the weather at times peaked at very high temperatures, it was well worth it. The conference was held in an auditorium and each session began with praise and worship. Tim King (no relation to Max King) spoke on John 1 and Genesis 1 with an excellent comparison. Tim’s heart and kindness always shows forth with his messages. Tim Martin presented an excellent case for a local flood, but his message was a lot stronger than merely dealing with an ark and animals. It had to do with maintaining a consistent hermeneutic and a willingness to be honest with the text and each other. I applaud him for his humility and sincerity. Sam Frost spoke on sanctification and as expected was very well-prepared. Shannon Shogren spoke on her own life. Her testimony captured the audience as she spoke about forgiveness and loving one another. I would recommend listening to her story. Shannon also shared in the area of music, and her voice is one of the best I have ever heard. Mike Sullivan spoke on types and shadows, and had much information to share. With plenty of scripture and charts and graphs, this will keep anyone busy studying for the next few months. Ward Fenley spoke on the cosmos and its counterparts, and again another message I would recommend listening to. Most importantly he spoke on forgiveness and that is something I know myself, I need to work on with various people in my life. Todd Dennis spoke on a variety of topics, and brought forth information not only from the Bible but also the Dead Sea scrolls. Most importantly he showed the victory of Christ is everyday, and not limited to a single date in history. One of the best features was the round table discussion. This took place in both the early morning and evening sessions. People were free to ask any question on any topic, whether they agreed or disagreed with any speaker. A lot of great questions were proposed, and each speaker happily answered. I would encourage those who couldn’t make this one to definitely go to next year’s conference. Some conferences in Christian circles put the focus on speakers, or perhaps even an idea. This conference was all about Christ and His kingdom, about His glory and no one else’s. That was the focus and it clearly showed throughout the conference. Much thanks would have go to everyone at NCMI for their hard work and enduring spirit that made this a success. Every thing from small to big was well thought out and planned, and in my opinion could not have been any better. See you at next year’s conference, John Hedges
