Am I confusing unrighteousness with sin? I ask because I realize that I (have always?) had trouble with the SG take on "It is finished" (I have talked to you about it quite a few times and keep hitting the same wall) because my heart kept falling back to the "If we say we have no sin" part, prior. You are not saying that, are you? He is declaring our sin forgiven, and all the promises you spoke of last night are fulfilled. With this I can now agree, although I believe I have really missed the beauty of it until the last few days. In fact, it is still opening up to me in a glorious and awesome way. That I have Him in that fullness right now is beyond my capacity to put to words. \o/  :-)

Also, with this new idea (for lack of a better word) pushing its way into my heart, it appears (I say this hesitantly) that my passion for His "cleansing my unrighteousness" remains intact, and is not some religious legalism at work (although it certainly can be the way I have approached it, at times), but a true longing placed in my heart by God?

Can this be? May I really live without fear of losing Him?

I completely understand your frustrations with this concept. It was very difficult for me every time I came across those "cannot commit sin" and similar verses. The reason it was so difficult is because I was unfamiliar with "sin" language. Let me briefly explain:

I still battle with pride, anger, jealousy, lust, greed, doubt, and mean thoughts. I battle with the same things I battled with before Christ wrought faith in me. But sin is a specific term designated for those who have not been cleansed. This cleansing is the purification of the conscience; a purification by which we know we are beautiful in the sight of God no matter what. He simply sees the finished work of Christ. Therefore, we cannot be regarded as sinners, sinful, or sinning because we are born of God. Though we may do the same things (sure, maybe have times where we do better or worse) we did prior to faith, they are no longer dubbed sin under our new world, or new heaven (conscience). The conscience has been purged. Guilty consciences are for sinners (those who remain in unbelief). "He will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment: of sin, because they believe not on me."

Whatsoever is not of faith is sin. What Romans is saying is, if we are trying to do good works without faith solely in Jesus Christ, it is sin. Even the plowing of the wicked is sin, says Proverbs. Proverbs also says, the sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination. But for us, we are always holy. He doesn't look at our disobedience and call it sin. He cannot and still be our Justifier. It is simply disobedience and it wreaks havoc in our everyday lives because He chastises us. But it cannot, must not be called sin. Our terminology has to change with our paradigm according to what He has set forth to be true of our union with Christ.

Sincerely,

Ward Fenley

Btw, in case that didn't answer your very important question:

Yes! You may live without the fear of losing Him. Why? Because it is not you who found Him. He found you, and to my knowledge God doesn't lose things. "None of them is lost, except the son of perdition."

And I don't think that son of perdition is you, my friend. :)

Your brother,

Ward
